Mirosoft WORD Help Information

While in MS-WORD, either press "F-1" or access Help from the "Help menu."

Contents Feature
Click on the Contents tab to display the Help Contents. The Help Contents contains a set of books; each book contains a set of topics. The book icons are closed, indicating that you can open them to view their topics.
Double-click on a book to open it and display it's contents. There may be more books (volumes) or actual topics (designated by a sheet of paper with a ? on it). Double click on a paper to open the topic. Further information is provided by clicking on the >>.

Index Feature
Click on the Index tab to display the Help Index. This contains a set of alphabetically arranged topics and subtopics. Type the first few letters of the topic in the Search text box, then double click on the desired topic in the Topics list box.

Office Assistant
The Office Assistant is an "intelligent" program that offers tips and advice on the document that you're working on. Located at the far right of the tool bar; word balloon with a ? on it.

Spell and Grammar Check
"ABC" button on the tool bar. Checks spelling and grammar and offers alternatives. Some unrecognized words (not in the any of the dictionaries) may be underlined in "
squiggly red." Right click on these to bring up alternative spellings, or new words altogether.

Thesaurus
Located in the Menu under Tools, Language (shortcut: shift+F7). Offers alternatives to particular words.

Selecting and Editing Text
1. With the Menu
Edit menu --> Select All.
2. With the Keyboard
Press CTRL+A to "Select All" text. Or, hold down SHIFT key and press keyboard arrow keys to select specific words or lines of text.
3. With the Mouse
a.   DOUBLE-click on a single word to select that word.
b.   LEFT-click and DRAG to select a line (or multiple lines) of text.
c.   TRIPLE-click on a word to select all the text in a whole paragraph.
d.   Move mouse to FAR LEFT margin (to the LEFT of the first word on a line). Your mouse pointer will change from a "Dogbone or I-Beam" to a "North-East pointing arrow." Then Click and Drag Up or Down to select multiple lines of text.
