Gavin is our 4th child. When Trenton was only 5 months old I found out I was pregnant again. Soon after that we moved to Georgia. I got a new doctor but when he learned of my history he also watched me very closely. I was in his office every week. We again learned we were having a boy. During my pregnancy with Gavin I was sick a lot and did not gain any weight. In fact, from the time I found out I was pregnant I had lost 12 pounds. But the doctor said that I was probably still loosing from when I had the other 3 so he was not worried. He checked the weight of the baby constantly and found that he was also very big, although not quite as big as his brother. Then when I was only 34 weeks I went in for another check-up and My doctor said that I had gained 2 lbs. in only 2 days. Since this was an early sign of pre-eclampsia he walked into where I was having my non-stress test and said "Mia, how about we have a baby today." I was so scared because it was 6 weeks to early. But again they did an amnio and gave him some surfactant to mature his lungs. They said he was ok to come out. They induced me and after 10 hours He came out screaming. It was music to my ears. Gavin was small compared to my other kids but huge for being 6 weeks early. He was 6lbs 1oz. His little fingernails were the only sign that he was early. He came right home and did very well. Then when he was only 3 days old he stopped eating. He never cried either. I told his doctor and he just said " You have a very good baby." I new from the other 3 that they are never THAT good when they are that young. I insisted that they see him right away. They finally agreed. They took a bottle of formula to give him some in case my milk wasn't coming in enough. He took one drink and turned his head. Then they got worried. They admitted him for tests. They did a spinal tap and found out he had Spinal Meningitis. My god, what else would we have to go through. Poor little guy, he was so weak. He was given IV meds while they found out if it was bacterial or viral. He kept pulling out his IV's so they put one in his head. One night I was sleeping next to him and I heard his nurse come in. Then I heard her say "Oh God!" I jumped out of bed and she was blocking me from him, She said that he had pulled his IV out of his head and it looked worse than it was. I tore past her and saw him covered in blood all over his face and head. They got him cleaned up and put a new IV in. Because he was so weak he couldn't eat and he dropped to 4lbs. 8oz. After a few days we found out it was only viral Meningitis. We were so relieved!!! He got better and bigger very fast after that and stayed healthy. He is now 3 and huge. He's even bigger than his brother. Gavin is also very bright and loves to learn. He is a very sweet child and has TONS of energy. He keeps us going chasing him around the house. My favorite thing he says is "Mommy, I love you more than chocolate!" I just melt every time he says it. He also calls me his "fweeheart" His way of saying sweetheart. |
