plug in and play with proteins

What if proteins and other biomolecules could just be plugged into a microchip such that one could control and use their combined biological functions at will ?

Researchers in the Netherlands have now made a step in this direction by creating a "protein printboard" where proteins can be immobilized with exquisite control over specificity, orientation, and environment.
