cervical cancer -- what the "tell her" campaign doesn't tell

In the UK there is a very highly promoted public health campaign about cervical cancer, the "tell her" campaign. The idea is that everybody should tell the girls and young women in their families what they need to know about the disease.

Hearing the radio commercial for the umpteeenth time, I of course assumed that this was timed to promote the new HPV vaccine, which is now actually available and being handed out to Australian girls and women aged 12 to 26 for free: http://www.health.gov.au/cervicalcancer

But not in the UK of course. The "tell her" campaign website: http://www.tellher.com/ tells us everything about the disease except the fact that there is a vaccine against it !!!

There are two possible explanations:

1) these people want to murder women at random by keeping a life-saving option secret.

2) the company sponsoring the campaign (you'll find their name on the website) is making good profits from cervical smear tests but doesn't have a vaccine ready, so they are aggressively promoting the old-fashioned approach against the one that will ultimately save more lives.

take your pick.
