nada

I learned from the following review:

http://books.guardian.co.uk/review/story/0,,2109338,00.html

that one of the greatest modern classics of Spanish literature (i.e. from Spain, not from Latin America):

Nada by Carmen Laforet

has failed to come out in English translation for more than half a century and has only now been translated for the first time. I think that is just scandalous. Doesn't anybody here ever look over the language fences ??? Surely it can't take 60 years for literary news to travel from Barcelona to London ?

As an act of non-violent protest I've just started to read the original (last time round, some 25 years ago, I read the German translation, and still have very vivid memories of the general spooky atmosphere of Barcelona by night, although I couldn't tell you the storyline!).
