Fuel of the future

Wouldn't it be nice if we could run our consumption of carbon fuels in closed cycles,  such that the CO2 we emit gets reused by plants which get reused to make fuel,  so ... no greenhouse, no war for oil, everybody's happy.

One way is to grow crops for the production of bioethanol, as pioneered in Brazil.  But this is less than perfect, as there is a lot of energy lost growing and harvesting those crops, and on top of that, we are effectively burning stuff that could serve to feed people.

Therefore, an even better way would be to produce ethanol from inedible plant material, such as wood, straw, agricultural waste. There are now several competing ways that promise a viable way of doing just that. Read my story here:
