In the early 1990s, mass spectrometry started to break out of the confines of organic chemistry and  become a useful tool for biochemistry (hey, and I was there at this exciting moment in history :), and then even for proteomics . Now two studies describing 2D imaging of an artificial membrane and of real biological tissues by mass spectroscopy suggest that the range of applications is expanding even further. Is there anything people can't do with mass spectrometers ?
