One hundred years ago exactly, this guy here:

 

Alois Alzheimer

gave a conference speech about a strange case of premature dementia, and the things that he found in the patient's brain after she died.  The minutes of the meeting note "no discussion".

by the end of the 20th century, this discovery had become quite famous, and the disease is now named after this guy, Alois Alzheimer.
