Arrangement by Michael Martin Murphey

Oh, give me a home
Where the buffalo roam
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouragin' word
And the skies are not cloudy all day

Chorus:
Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouragin' word
And the skies are not cloudy all day

The red man was pressed
From this part of the west
It's not likely he'll ever return
To the banks of Red River
Where seldom, if ever
His flickerin' campfire still burns

Repeat Chorus

How often at night
When the heavens are bright
I see the light of those flickering stars
Have I laid there amazed
And asked as I gazed
If their glory exceeds that of ours

Repeat Chorus

NOTE OF INTEREST:

A poem written by Dr. Brewster Higley, a saddlebag physician, which appeared under a different title in its initial printing in 1873. The poem was written to honor Dr. Higley's homestead in Kansas.

Personal Note:

[This was my dad's favorite song! He never thought he could sing, but when he did, it was always this song! I wish my dad could have heard MMM sing it for him. ]
