July 4, 2007 ![]() I arrived in Honduras on Saturday, June 30. Nelson David Doblado (on the left in the photo) and Jorge Elvir (on the right, holding the guitar) met me at the airport. I am staying at Jorge“s house, at least for the month of July. Nelson is a composer, and he teaches music at the Intercontenental School here in Tegucigalpa. Jorge is an excellent guitarist, studying at the National Autonomous University (where I will be teaching while I am here). Interestingly, Jorge is also finishing a medical degree! One of the things I will be sharing with music students here is the idea of performing with historical instruments. In the photo, Nelson and Jorge are studying my "Decacorde". This is a replica of an 1826 instrument of Rene Lacote (Paris) built by Jack Sanders from Los Angeles. We were discussing the different composers one could choose to play with this instrument as well as discussing the advantages of playing an instrument like this one. I will be posting more later as I meet with officials at the university and begin meeting with Honduran composers. I have only been here two days, but many great things are already happening! 2007-07-04 14:36:44 GMT
