Perfect sight without glasses

Although I had passed a sight examination for my driver's license in 1982, I realized three years later that something had changed with my sharpness of vision . I was unable to see things clearly at a distance. At first, I did not worry about that because I felt it was not significant since I could still read a newspaper without a problem. Unfortunately, my vision continued to decline. Again, I did not go to the ophthalmologist because I was vain and did not want to wear glasses. In 1993, my sight had taken a turn for the worse and I had no alternative but to go visit the eye specialist. I was given a prescription for glasses, went to the dispensing optician and finally received my glasses. At the same time I bought contact lenses which I wore 3-4 days per week. In 1995 and 1997 I went back to the ophthalmologist because the deterioration was progressing. Again I was given two prescriptions for glasses, which I bought at a costly price. I was very unhappy with the entire situation. I did not like the glasses or my appearance with them on. Something fundamental had to be changed. In September 1998, I saw an interesting report-Training For Your Eyes- on german TV. The message was simple. If you relax the muscles of shoulders, back and neck, muscles of your eyes will relax also. If the muscles of your eyes are relaxed, your eyes will become spherical again. If your eyes are spherical, you will regain sharpness of vision. In addition, I bought 3 or 4 very interesting books (including audio cassettes) on the subject. Day by day I completed the recommended exercises. Every three months I went to the optician for eye exams. Over the course of time, I noticed some improvement and it appeared the deterioration had come to a halt but by no means had I regained full sharpness of vision. In January 2000, my cousin was installing AOL on my computer, I bought a review with a report -Eye Laser Surgery- on the cover. I conducted my own research using the Internet and found a hospital in Cologne that specialized in this surgery. I made an appointment for an examination in February, 2000. After I had passed the initial examination, I scheduled a date for the laser surgery for June, 2000.

After a short pre-operation examination on Friday, June 19th, 2000, I traveled by train to Cologne the 22nd of June, checked in at the physician's office and anxiously awaited for the surgery I had waited so long for. I was asked to take a seat in the waiting room where five patients already had been waiting. I was given a slight sedati ve and my right eye was dropped each 20 minutes. After another three hours it was my turn. I had to change clothes and was taken (in a wheel deck chair) to the operation room. Then my body was almost completely covered by sheets. While the equipment was being made ready a plastic ring was put on the eye in order to prevent the eye lid from moving during the laser procedure. Lying horizontal in the chair I was moved beneath the laser. The lights went out. I was asked to focus a green mark within a red blaze of colour. A computer codified plane softly touched the surface of my eye. Then the knife inside the plane cut a 1/6 milimeter (1/150 inch) deep and 6 milimeter (1/4 inch) long flap in the eye. The flap was removed by the operating surgeon. Both, the red bl aze of colour and the green mark within disappeared. There was nothing but eternal darkness. The laser started to crackle for 29 seconds. I smelt something like burnt skin. The laser stopped, the eye was dropped again, the flap was removed in its original position and luckily the red blaze of colour appeared again. The plastic ring was taken away and a contact lense was put on the eye for protection purposes. I was asked to set up right. The surgeon pointed at the clock on the wall. What's the time? Can you read it? My sight still was somewhat milky, even foggy, but I was able to tell him the time. I was given an eye patch and went back to the waiting room for a post surgery examination. While sitting in the waiting room for 30 minutes I became curious . I removed the eye patch a little. First I watched the people on the opposite side of the waiting room then I watched through the window. I was about to cry. Everything as sharp and clear as a razor blade, even at the far distance.
