Sir
Guy of Gisbourne |

'Robin
Hood:
Prince
of Thieves'
|
. |
Sir Guy of Gisbourne is
almost as well known in the historical novels as is Robin Hood himself.
Where there is one you must find the other. Michael Wincott's portrayal
of Gisbourne is excellent, and in contrast to several other actors in
the movie, his English accent is very convincing (I was quite
disappointed to find out that he is not from England and therefore lives a
lot further away from me!!).
Gisbourne is meant to be a thoroughly
bad lot, but Michael gives him a sense of more than a hired thug or the
Sheriff of Nottingham's henchman and cousin. Gisbourne is a man who
given affection, support and encouragement could have amounted to a
great deal more. This character comes through as being solitary and
lonely, and it
would have been good to have seen more of him and to have been allowed
to delve deeper into his character and nature. This
page is dedicated to Kate, Lady Gisbourne herself.

Sir Guy of Gisbourne on the
chase. His prey this time is no notorious outlaw, but a young boy who it
seems has killed one of the Sheriff of Nottingham's deer. |
 |
 |
Guy takes great delight in
taunting Wulf who has climbed a tree in an attempt to escape the hunting
dogs, but now Sir Guy has caught up with him and is about to have his
own sport.. |
And might I have the pleasure of
your name before I have you run through.
Guy is incensed at the audacity of Robin's
words, but he soon finds that he has met his match on this occasion. |
 |
 |
Guy at the church following the
customary and obligatory service of worship, which he obviously found
highly tedious and boring. He listens and watches the Sheriff's vain
attempts to tempt the Lady Marian into moving to live at the
castle. |
Why a spoon cousin? The Sheriff's
reasoning escapes Guy, who can think of far more logical ways of dealing
with his enemies than taking their hearts out with a spoon. |
 |
 |
Guy orders the village to be set
on fire. If the villagers won't deliver Robin Hood and his men into
Guy's hands, then they must pay for it. |
Guy heading an escort. He must
venture through Sherwood, which is not the safest of places at the best
of times, but with his shipment of gold this mission is especially
dangerous. |
 |
 |
Trouble ahead! Guy becomes alert
as he spots two bandits in Sherwood. He decides to split the men,
leaving some with the gold and commands the others to follow him after
the outlaws. |
It would seem that Guy has failed
in his duties once too often in his cousin's mind. What better way to
get the point over than by trying out a brand new blade. |
