Philo Gant |
'Strange Days'

.. |
.
|
Set in Los Angeles in a 1999
which is rather different from the one that we've just experienced, in
technology anyway, Philo Gant (Michael Wincott) is a record
producer / talent agent who is addicted to digital recordings of real life
events where the user experiences all the feelings of the person who
has been recorded. He is involved in a sleazy and ruthless world of
'blackjacks' - recordings of death. Philo Gant is not one of Michael's
most likeable character in my opinion, but some would, I'm sure, disagree
with me - each to their own I guess! Still the movie is certainly worth a
watch, and also stars Ralph Fiennes, Angela Bassett and Juliette Lewis. |

When one of his clients is found
murdered, Philo Gant tells the press that a great man has been lost. His
involvement in this is not known as yet, as he convinces the press of
his sincerity. |
 |
 |
Lenny Nero (Ralph Fiennes)
turns up at a nightclub looking for Faith (Juliette Lewis), his
ex-girlfriend. She has left him for Philo and is at the club with him.
Nero warns her about Philo, but is quickly seen off. |
A suspicious and paranoid Philo
warns Faith to keep her mouth shut and not to associate with anyone. |
 |
 |
Gant is incensed when Lenny Nero
turns up at his home looking for Faith again. He gives Faith the option
of staying with him or leaving with Nero. Faith stays, fearing that
Nero's life could be in danger if she were to leave Philo. |
Satisfied with Faith's decision
to stay, Philo angrily warns Nero to keep away or he will suffer the
consequences. He later takes out his fury on Faith, telling her that the
only time a whore should open her mouth is when she's giving head! |
 |
 |
With things closing in on him
Philo burns the disk that holds the evidence that could lead to trouble for him. |
Convinced that he is in the
clear, Philo appears relaxed and happy at a New Year's Eve party. He has
sent Faith upstairs to wait for him. The feelings between them are
anything but amicable, and Philo has made it clear that he cares little
for her. |
 |
 |
When Lenny turns up at the party,
Philo is ready for him and lashes out angrily. He then goes upstairs to
find Faith. |
Philo walks in on Faith with Max
(Tom Sizemore) a colleague, and realises that he's been betrayed.
He finds out too late that Max is the killer, and is unable to defend
himself against the bigger man. Max places the playback device on
Philo's head and over does it, leaving Philo completely cabbaged. |
