Notes for John Govert/Mary Rietman
"The John Goverts", a family picture of the John and Mary Govert and their 11 children was taken at their farm south of Dyer, Indiana. (See attached picture). This picture was found in the book "Dyer, Indiana", at the Schererville, Indiana Library.
Text that accompanied the picture: John amd Mary Govert (nee Rietman) lived on a farm south of Dyer during their productive years, but moved into town later and lived in their home at 2149 Hart Street until their deathes. They are pictured at their farm house with their eleven children: Alphons and Bernard, Carrie (Enzweiler), Catherine (Sr. Laurent); Julie (Held), Rosie (Held), and Pauline (St. Philothea). Mary, who became Mrs. Margraf, is pictured the left of her parets, who both lived to an advanced age.
This was a prolific family. Of the even children, John died at an early age and was not married. Descendants of the other ten children at last count numbered 44 grandchildren, 129 great grandchildren and 46 great great grandchildren. Many of them live in Dyer and all over the Calumet area, and are doubtless roud of the fine family heritage.
