Notes for Philbert "Phil" Simon Margraf

Phil worked for the Michigan Central Railroad when he met his wife Mary. After they were married, they lived in Three Oaks, Michigan. Family transferred to Indiana by the New York Central Railroad. Phil was a repair foreman for the railroad. His last section of responsibility was from near Elkhart to New Carlisle.
He suffered a heart attack or stroke that made him retire. He was bound to a chair or bed after retiring because of his condition. This happened around Jerry's college years. Mary did not learn to drive until Fran got married. Mary worked for a doctor's office. High school training in office work. She ran the household, finances, etc. She didn't retire until after she was 70. Died at night at home. Ed and Jerry worked on the railroad during summer vacations. Earned money for school.
