Notes for Tryphenia Letitla Jester

From the family records of Kurt Otto Schelle, Jr.:

Tryphena was born in North Carolina on April 14, 1821 and died in South Bend on August 6, 1887. She married Lewis Garret on April 22, 1841 in Williamsburg, Wayne County, Indiana. Williamsburg is close to the Indiana/Ohio state line. This suggests that Lewis, who was born in Ohio, lived in Ohio just across the state line. The horse and buggy of that era restructed how far a young man could "go a courtin" in those days. It is possible he worked on a nearby farm. Hopefully, some day we will find the anser to that important detail. It is also possible the Jester family was Quaker. Many of the families that moved from North Carolina to Wayne County, Indiana were Quakers.

As a point of interest, Great Grandmother Brown's Brother, Aaron, also came to St. Joseph County, lived in or near Lakeville, and was a wagon-maker at Studebakers.
