Notes for Rene Chauvin

The name Chauvin is French for "Baldie" or "Fierce Patriot". The occupation "Closier", or the french "metayage", has been described as a person who contracted with the owner of a farm to work on the owner's farm using the farmers supplies. At the end both the farmer and the closier would share the profits. This kind of agreement was common in France before 1789.
