The family of this ancestor is unknown. He was a native of the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. Around 1630, he married Charlotte Maugis, family unknown, native of Saint-Germain, region of Saintes or Saintonge in France. Together they had 6 children. This soldier wsa in camp in Brouage in 1628, at the time when Richelieu took hold of the city of La Rochelle. He got married around 1630 and stayed in Brouage until 1646. November 5 of 1646, before the notary Teuleron of La Rochelle, he purchased for annual rent of 16 pounds a piece of land situated at the foot of the wall of Saint-Nicholas. The same day he hired the master mason and stone-cutter Jacques Rionteau to build him a stone house of 20 feet in length. However, this agreement was cancelled December 12, 1647. During the summer of 1649, he came to Canada with his wife and entire family and his children were Marie, age 17, Francois, age 15, Aimee, age 14, Madeleine, age 13, Jacques, age 10, and Suzanne, age 9. On October 28, 1649, the governor Louis Dailleboust gave him and his son Francois each 30 arpents of frontage land at Louzon. He also obtained 26 arpents of land area in Quebec, on November 19, 1650. He had settled in Quebec, but on August 9, 1654 he sold his home and his land in Quebec to Charles Phiippeau for the price of 500 pounds. In the autumn of 1655, he went to France and on September 19 he promised Claude Auber to release him from the sum of 19 pounds that he owed to Switzerland, in the name of Abraham Richard, from La Rochelle. In the spring of 1656, he made an agreement before the notary Moreau of La Rochelle with the master stone-cutter, Andre Bougret, but this contract was not followed. On his return from France, the governor of Lauzon gave him and and site 20 feet by 26 feet at the Basse-Ville, Saint-Pierre street on May 20, 1656. Le Journal de Jesuites tells us that the "Iroquois Onontagues" (took) one of his cows and a sow on May 6, 1657, in front of his house. The following July 30, Jean Fouquet recognized having received from him the sum of 40 pounds that he had promised to replace in his name to Jean Ranaud for 2 casks of wine. July 31, 1661, Antoine Pepin contracted an obligation of 56 pounds and 8 sols to his consideration. July 1, 1664, he attempted to remove some volunteers who were found on board a ship in Quebec harbor. He was stopped and banished from Quebec for this offense. August 27, 1664 he and his wife acquitted Louis Rover de Villeray of the sum of 55 pounds for the receipt of the inheritance of Ignace Sevestre. July 16, 1665, the lord of Tracy gave him and two other Swiss people frontage land of 21 arpents by 40 arpents in depth at the Grand-Anse (Riviere-Ouelle). This concession became known as the carton of Suisses Fribourgeois. October 6, 1667 he acquitted Jean Talor of 2000 pounds, to whom he had sold a small boat. In the 1667 census, on his land in Lauzon, he owned 8 horned animals, and 30 arpents of valuable land. He passed away at Louzon Ocotber 14, 1669 and was buried in Quebec the next day.
