Notes for Mathurin Morissette

Dictionnaire Biographique des Ancetres Quebecois (1608-1700), Volume J-M in collection of the National Archives of Canada (translated by John Margraf):
Mathurin Morisset (c 1645-1717)
The son of Nicholas Morisset and Marie Thomas, from Thouarsais in Poitou. He contracted marriage before the notary Gilles Rageot on Wednesday December 28, 1689, with Elisabeth Coquin, born at Neuville on Tuesday April 13, 1674, the daughter of Pierre Coquin and Catherine Baudin. They wed in Neuville on Monday January 9, 1690. Together they had 10 children. The circumstances to his coming to Canada are unknown. He got married in January 1690 and went to establish himself at Portneuf on a parcel of land for which he obtained the official title on November 15, 1697. We know from a document from 1714 the he was blind since 1708. It was therefore his wife that would agree to terms in their name. July 27, 1711, Pierre Perrault and Geneviere Duclos, from Batiscan, sold land at the price of 500 pounds to his son Mathurin. It was his wife who helped their son at the time of this transaction. However, his wife passed away at Cap-Sante and was buried on April 18, 1714. The following October 1, he came to an agrement with his son Mathurin. The latter would take care of his parents and always care for his brothers and sisters. As compensation, he would acquit the 500 pounds he had paid in his son's name for his land, on the condition that he would continue to take care of him until his death. He passed away at Cap-Sante where he was buried on January 8, 1717. The notary Horne Laneuville took inventory of his belongings on March 15, 1717.
