HERE’S TO THE GIRLS, BOYS
I was a broth of a boy in my day;
My companions were all much the same,
The one thing we liked more than
chasing the girls
Was a rousing good football game.
Refrain:
Here’s to the goals we scored, my boys,
And here’s to the ones that we missed,
And here’s to the girls we never could
catch,
And here’s to the girls we kissed boys
Here’s to the girls we kissed.
The old men stood on the line and
moaned
That the days of good football, they
were long gone;
But what did we care what the veterans
said
With the lassies there cheering us on.
Refrain:
Here’s to the goals we scored, my boys,
etc
We were so young when we took to the
field
That they laughed and said we could
never play;
But time took care of our youth, my
boys,
And we were soon to have our day.
Refrain:
Here’s to the goals we scored, my boys,
etc
I remember the evening we brought home
the cup
And filled it with brandy and wine,
And passed it round till they all got a
sup
And the barman forgot to call “Time!”
Refrain:
Here’s to the goals we scored, my boys,
etc
We were all broths of boys in our day
But how swiftly that day did fly;
Now we sit in the bar-room drinking our
beer
And talking of days that went by.
Refrain:
Here’s to the goals we scored, my boys,
etc
