Undermining Pillars of Faith
The truths that have been substantiated by the manifest
working of God are to stand fast. Let no one presume to move a pin or
a foundation stone from the structure. Those who attempt to undermine
the pillars of our faith are among those of whom the Bible says that
"in
the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing
spirits, and doctrines of devils." Letter 87, 1905, pp. 2, 3.

Removing the Landmarks
Our people need to understand the reasons of our faith
and our past experiences. How sad it is that so many of them apparently
place unlimited confidence in men who present theories tending to uproot
our past experiences and to remove the old landmarks! Those who can so
easily be led by a false spirit show that they have been following the
wrong captain for some time--so long that they do not discern that they
are departing from the faith, or that they are not building upon the true
foundation. We need to urge all to put on their spiritual eyeglasses,
to have their eyes anointed that they may see clearly and discern the true
pillars of the faith. Then they will know that "the foundation of God
standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. 2
Tim. 2:19. We need to revive the old evidences of the faith once delivered
to the saints.

Those who have been separating from Christ by reason of
false theories and maxims and customs hear the truth sent from God as a
strange thing and inquire, "Doth he not speak in parables?" They lose sight
of God and his manner of working, which is often an unexpected to the agent
whom he uses as to the people to whom the agent is sent. In some character
a prejudice is so strengthened by the first resistance of the truth that
they take false positions, and hold to them, notwithstanding the most positive
evidence from the word. With many there is an apparent desire to be
much in prayer with God, and yet when the word comes from the Lord, they
are startled into resistance, and they exclaim against it and the messenger
as did the Jews, saying, "He is tearing away the very pillars of our faith."
In their blindness they do not comprehend what constitute the pillars of
faith.

The Foundations, Pillars, and Landmarks
Page 29
Let the truths that are the foundation of our faith
be kept before the people. Some will depart from the faith, giving
heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils. They talk science, and
the enemy comes in and gives them an abundance of science; but it is not
the science of salvation. It is not the science of humility, of consecration,
or of the sanctification of the Spirit. We are now to understand what
the pillars of our faith are,--the truths that have made us as a people
what we are, leading us on step by step.

The passing of the time in 1844 was a period of great
events, opening to our astonished eyes the cleansing of the sanctuary transpiring
in heaven, and having decided relation to God's people upon the earth,
[also] the first and second angels' messages and the third, unfurling the
banner on which was inscribed, "The commandments of God and the faith of
Jesus." One of the landmarks under this message was the temple of God,
seen by His truth-loving people in heaven, and the ark containing the law
of God. The light of the Sabbath of the fourth commandment flashed
its strong rays in the pathway of the transgressors of God's law. The nonimmortality
of the wicked is an old landmark. I can call to mind nothing more that
can come under the head of the old landmarks. All this cry about changing
the old landmarks is all imaginary.

"This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as
I have loved you." My dear friends, for Christ's sake take your stand on
higher ground. Every feature of our faith is to be tested in the way that
is the most trying. The pillars of our faith are to be tested. Sophistry
will be brought in as it was to Adam and Eve. You will be strongly tempted,
and unless you have firm faith in the principles of the truth for this
time, you will be led astray. Look to Christ as your helper. Take him
into your heart as an abiding friend. As you do this, his blessing will
rest upon you in large measure. You will be kept by the power of God. The
enemy will not be able to lead you to swerve from your allegiance.

It is Satan's plan to weaken the faith of God's people
in the Testimonies. Next follows skepticism in regard to the vital
points of our faith, the pillars of our position, then doubt as to the
Holy Scriptures, and then the downward march to perdition. When the
Testimonies, which were once believed, are doubted and given up, Satan
knows the deceived ones will not stop at this; and he redoubles his efforts
till he launches them into open rebellion, which becomes incurable and
ends in destruction.--4T 211.

Sophistries That Undermine the Pillars
My message to you is: No longer consent to listen
without protest to the perversion of truth. Unmask the pretentious
sophistries which, if received, will lead ministers and physicians and
medical missionary workers to ignore the truth. Every one is now to
stand on his guard. God calls upon men and women to take their stand
under the blood-stained banner of Prince Emmanuel. I have been instructed
to warn our people; for many are in danger of receiving theories and sophistries
that undermine the foundation pillars of the faith.

The Foundation of Our Faith
Page 207
What influence is it would lead men at this stage of our
history to work in an underhand, powerful way to tear down the foundation
of our faith--the foundation that was laid at the beginning of our work
by prayerful study of the Word and by revelation? Upon this foundation
we have been building for the past fifty years. Do you wonder that when
I see the beginning of a work that would remove some of the pillars of
our faith, I have something to say? I must obey the command, "Meet it!"

Preaching the Distinctive Truths
Page 224
Preaching the Sanctuary Doctrine Endorsed by Holy Spirit
For more than half a century the different points of
present truth have been questioned and opposed. New theories have been
advanced as truth, which were not truth, and the Spirit of God revealed
their error. As the great pillars of our faith have been presented, the
Holy Spirit has borne witness to them, and especially is this so regarding
the truths of the sanctuary question. Over and over again the Holy Spirit
has in a marked manner endorsed the preaching of this doctrine. But today,
as in the past, some will be led to form new theories and to deny the truths
upon which the Spirit of God has placed His approval. Manuscript 125, 1907

The Sanctuary a Point of Special Attack
In the future, deception of every kind is to arise, and
we want solid ground for our feet. We want solid pillars for the building.
Not one pin is to be removed from that which the Lord has established.
The
enemy will bring in false theories, such as the doctrine that there is
no sanctuary. This is one of the points on which there will be a departing
from the faith. Where shall we find safety unless it be in the truths
that the Lord has been giving for the last fifty years? Review and Herald,

Warnings must be given, and entreaties must be made,
dangers must be pointed out, and the landmarks of truth must be made plain.
God will not give any man this work unless he is making a practical application
of the truth to his own soul, and revealing the fact that he has the faith
that works by love and purifies the soul. Oh, how precious are these words,
"I write unto you, little children, (those newly come to the faith) because
your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake." 1

Hope for Unity
If your faith in the Word of God is strengthened; if you
will fully accept the truths that have called us out of the world and made
us a people denominated by the Lord as His peculiar treasure; if you
will unite with your brethren in standing by the old landmarks, then there
will be unity. But you remain in unbelief, unsettled as to the true
foundation of faith; there can be no hope of any more unity in the future
than there has been in the past.

Satan can skilfully play the game of life with many souls,
and he acts in a most underhanded, deceptive manner to spoil the faith
of the people of God and to discourage them. . . . He works today as
he worked in heaven, to divide the people of God in the very last stage
of this earth's history. He seeks to create dissension, and to arouse contention
and discussion, and to remove if possible the old landmarks of truth committed
to God's people. He tries to make it appear as if the Lord contradicts
Himself.

Satan's Last Campaign
Page 64
Satan hopes to involve the remnant people of God in
the general ruin that is coming upon the earth. As the coming of Christ
draws nigh, he will be more determined and decisive in his efforts to overthrow
them.
Men and women will arise professing to have some new light or
some new revelation whose tendency is to unsettle faith in the old landmarks.
Their doctrines will not bear the test of God's word, yet souls will
be deceived. False reports will be circulated, and some will be taken in
this snare. . . .
We cannot be too watchful against every form of error,
for Satan is constantly seeking to draw men from the truth. . . .

We are very sorry to see the result of gathering a large
number to Battle Creek. Ministers who have been believers in the foundation
truths that have made us what we are--Seventh-day Adventists; ministers
who went to Battle Creek to teach and strengthen the truths of the Bible,
are now, when old and gray-headed, turning from the grand truths of the
Bible, and accepting infidel sentiments. This means that the next step
will be a denial of a personal God, pulling down the bulwarks of the faith
that is plainly revealed in the Scriptures. The sanctuary question is the
foundation of our faith.

The Integrity of the Sanctuary Truth
Page 4
Let us all cling to the established truth of the sanctuary.
Those who are so shortsighted that they will begin to do the work that
some others have been doing in advocating the sentiments contained in
Living
Temple, are departing from the living God in spiritualistic, satanic
experiences that will not do the souls who receive them any good. They
are departing from the faith, seeking to tear down the foundation of truth.
The men who have lost their hold on the truths of the sanctuary question
as they have been presented by men who have been under the Holy Spirit's
guidance, had better pray more and talk less. I testify in the name of
the Lord that Elder Ballenger is led by satanic agencies and spiritualistic,
invisible leaders. Those who have the guidance of the Holy Spirit will
turn away from these seducing spirits.--Ms 59, 1905. ("The Sabbath Truth

The Foundation of Our Faith
Page 201
As a people, we are to stand firm on the platform of
eternal truth that has withstood test and trial. We are to hold to
the sure pillars of our faith. The principles of truth that God has
revealed to us are our only true foundation. They have made us what
we are. The lapse of time has not lessened their value. It is the constant
effort of the enemy to remove these truths from their setting, and to put
in their place spurious theories. He will bring in everything that he possibly
can to carry out his deceptive designs. But the Lord will raise up men
of keen perception, who will give these truths their proper place in the
plan of God.

In the early days of the message, when our numbers were
few, we studied diligently to understand the meaning of many scriptures.
At times it seemed as if no explanation could be given. My mind seemed
to be locked to an understanding of the Word; but when our brethren who
had assembled for study, came to a point where they could go no farther,
and had recourse to earnest prayer, the Spirit of God would rest upon me,
and I would be taken off in vision, and be instructed in regard to the
relation of scripture to scripture. These experiences were repeated over
and over and over again. Thus many truths of the third angel's message
were established, point by point. Think you that my faith in this message
will ever waver? Think you that I can remain silent, when I see an effort
being made to sweep away the foundation pillars of our faith? I am as thoroughly
established in these truths as it is possible for a person to be. I can

The Three Angels and the Other Angel
Page 103
The burden of the warning now to come to the people
of God, nigh and afar off, is the third angel's message. And those who
are seeking to understand this message will not be led by the Lord to make
an application of the Word that will undermine the foundation and remove
the pillars of the faith that has made Seventh-day Adventists what they
are today. The truths that have been unfolding in their order, as we
have advanced along the line of prophecy revealed in the Word of God, are
truth, sacred, eternal truth today. Those who passed over the ground step
by step in the past history of our experience, seeing the chain of truth
in the prophecies, were prepared to accept and obey every ray of light.
They
were praying, fasting, searching, digging for the truth as for hidden treasures,
and the Holy Spirit, we know, was teaching and guiding us. Many theories
were advanced, bearing a semblance of truth, but so mingled with misinterpreted
and misapplied scriptures, that they led to dangerous errors. Very well
do we know how every point of truth was established, and the seal set upon
it by the Holy Spirit of God. And all the time voices were heard, "Here
is the truth," "I have the truth; follow me." But the warnings came, "Go
not ye after them. I have not sent them, but they ran." See Jeremiah
23:21
The Signs of the Times
02-03-88
In these last days there is a call from Heaven inviting
you to keep the statutes and ordinances of the Lord. The world has set
at naught the law of Jehovah; but God will not be left without a witness
to his righteousness, or without a people in the earth to proclaim his
truth. The door of the heavenly sanctuary has been opened, and no man can
shut it, and the light of the Holy of Holies is shining into the world.
The people of God have had their attention called to the ark of the testimony,
and the law within it has been revealed with its unalterable precepts.
In holy vision, John saw the remnant church on the earth, in an age of
lawlessness, and he points them out in unmistakable language: "Here
is the patience of the saints; here are they that keep the commandments
of God, and the faith of Jesus." They are in harmony with that law that
rests in the ark in the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary. The
whole duty of man is summed up in its sacred precepts. In the heart
of the law is the commandment enjoining upon man the observance of the
Sabbath of Jehovah, which the world and the church have trodden under their
feet. For centuries men have walked in blindness concerning the true Sabbath,
and the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now is the day of reformation,
and he calls upon men everywhere to repent. When the light of God's disregarded
commandment shone upon the path of those who sincerely loved God, they
delayed not to keep his statutes. They realized that they must come out
from the world and be separate, and touch not the unclean, that they might
claim the promise, "I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you,
and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." They
became the repairers of the breach that has been made in the law of God,
because they turned away their feet from the Sabbath, from doing their
pleasure on God's holy day, and called the Sabbath a delight, the holy
of the Lord, honorable, and did honor him, not speaking their own words
or finding their own pleasure.
Patriarchs and Prophets
Page 313
During his stay in the mount, Moses received directions for the building of a sanctuary in which the divine presence would be specially manifested. "Let them make Me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them" Exodus 25:8, was the command of God. For the third time the observance of the Sabbath was enjoined. "It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever," the Lord declared, "that ye may know that I am Jehovah that doth sanctify you. Ye shall keep the Sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you. . . . Whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people." Exodus 31:13, 14, 17. Directions had just been given for the immediate erection of the tabernacle for the service of God; and now the people might conclude, because the object had in view was the glory of God, and also because of their great need of a place of worship, that they would be justified in working at the building upon the Sabbath. To guard them from this error, the warning was given. Even the sacredness and urgency of that special work for God must not lead them to infringe upon His holy rest day.
