Marion Slade – Claire Askam
Marion is divorced and the mother of Bella, who died as a teenage carnival queen eight years ago. Marion deeply regrets her actions at the time of her daughter's death.

John Starkey – David Bamber
An enthusiastic supporter of Midsomer Barton, Starkey is a failed children's entertainer who also works as compere during the Oak Apple celebrations.

Grace Starkey – Caroline Goodall
Grace runs a riding stables and treats the Oak Apple festivities with as much contempt as she does her husband. She is having an affair with Dr Wellow.

Ursula Gooding – Elizabeth Spriggs
Ursula is the sister of murder victim Iris Rainbird. She is a judge at the festival and a busybody who keeps a watchful eye on all the goings-on in the village.

April Gooding – Sophie Thompson
Put-upon April is still under her mother's thumb. She works as a piano teacher and is Brown Owl of the local Brownie pack. She has a crush on Dr Wellow.

Alistair Gooding – Richard Cant
Alistair is the apple of his mother Ursula's eye. His sister April loathes and distrusts him. He runs Midsomer Barton's small library and tourist information centre.

Mark Castle – Paul Ireland
Mark Castle is a former traveller who has settled in Midsomer Barton where he runs a smallholding.

Helen Castle – Louise Brecon-Richards
Helen is an earth-mother whose animals, poultry and daughter Sadie seem to run free on the almost idyllic farm.

Rob Pride – Tom Bennett
Rob is single and works part-time on the Castles' farm. He also does gardening work for Marion Slade. He is friendly with a boyish charm.

Ron Chalk – Tom Georgeson
Ron is landlord of the Heart of Oaks pub in Midsomer Barton. He is older than his wife Ruth and almost insanely jealous of her.

Ruth Chalk – Tracy Brabin
Ruth is 10 years younger than her husband – easy-going, attractive and a bit of a flirt.

Doctor Wellow – Simon Callow
The local GP, Dr Wellow drinks, smokes, enjoys the good life and seems to be fancied by most females in the village.
