Summary:
Postman Dave Cutler is found brutally murdered by a girl delivering papers. Some superficial investigation reveals that Dave got his fair share of ladies - married ladies. Suspects a plenty, ranging from women he left to husbands out for revenge. Then Debbie Shortland is bludgeoned to death in the nearby woods, but the body count is still rising: Simon Reason finds an early death also, and Owen August is crushed under an antique desk...

The murderer is John Field. He was psychologically damaged as a kid, when his mother Tammie (a prostitute) committed suicide in the 1950's because she lost her good looks when she developed cancer. John had written a novel about his mother's life - Dark Autumn - but he couldn't get it typed up or published. John killed Dave Cutler because of his preying on woman, which reminded him of the men that had preyed on his mother. He bludgeoned Debbie to death because she refused to type up his manuscript, he killed Simon Reason for having an adulterous affair and lastly he crushed Owen August under a desk because the latter refused to publish his novel. |
