Episode Forty-Five
Drip...Drip....Drip...The water slowly fell from Savannah's rich brown skin as she stepped out of the shower. She wrapped a large white towel around her body before daring herself to step in front of the mirror. When she did, she wasn't pleased.
The features were too large, she thought. The forehead too high, the eyes set too far apart, the nose too large, and the lips too thick. All of it, she screamed internally, was ugly. Savannah had never been what anyone could call skinny, but she'd never allowed herself to be called fat. Now, though, she seemed to balloon out into masses of blubber and weight. Wrapping a second, smaller towel around her head, she'd never thought herself uglier than at that moment.
"No wonder they laugh. No wonder they insult," the words spilled from her lips in a whisper. "Who would even want to look at someone like me?"
Savannah opened the door, letting the steam escape from the bathroom. She walked back into her own room, closing the door silently behind her. She looked down at her feet. Too big, the critical voice told her. Your feet are too big. Guys hate girl with big feet. She sighed before going to her closet to pick out the day's wardrobe.
When she completed the merciless task of dressing, she made sure her room was in perfect order before departing it. Savannah heard the television blasting in the front room. She slowly made her way into the room, noticing Jade watching the set from the couch.
"Good morning."
Jade's head whipped around. A brief smile crossed her face. "It's about time you got out of there, girl! I didn't want to know if you wanted to melt your skin away or what in there."
No smile appeared on Savannah's face. "Let's go."
Jade's forehead creased with lines of worry. "Is everything okay, Savannah? Are those boys still on your mind? If they are, don't worry about it."
Savannah lifted her backpack off of the back of a kitchen chair. "We need to go."
"We're not going anywhere until you tell me what's wrong," Jade half-stood from her position on the couch.
Savannah placed the straps on her shoulder and walked mechanically towards the door. Placing her hand on the doorknob, she said into the door loud enough for Jade to hear, "You'll never understand."
-Eve discussed with Francesca her relationship problems
-Amber showed up on Francesca's doorstep to tell her about Amante's arrival
-Mel poured out his feelings towards his father to Chantal
-Marlo revealed her plan to blackmail Shannon, while Shannon stormed out on Chloe
-Savannah was insulted by fellow classmates
