Episode 46: Scene Six
Allan rubbed his chin in thought. "No, I can't say I've heard of an 'Amante' before. Are you from around here?"
"No, I come from Spain. I came here in January to visit someone special," Amante explained.
Allan's eyebrows raised in interest. "Oh? A family member?"
"No, I wouldn't say that."
"A family friend?"
"Not exactly."
Allan's eyes lighted when the realization struck him. "A lady friend maybe?"
Amante looked down at the floor, embarassed. He muttered, "Yes."
"Wow! I've never known a fourteen-year-old to go so far just to see a girl!"
Amante looked at Allan with solemn eyes. "She's not just any girl. She's...amazing, beautiful, smart, witty. She's...beyond words."
"Man, it sounds like you're really in love with this girl."
"I am! I am!" Amante exclaimed eagerly. "I only wish I could find her," Amante's voice trailed off, his eyes wistful.
"Well, what's her name?"
Amante's head snapped up so that he could look up at Allan. "I'm sorry. I'm sitting here going on and on. I'm sure you have somewhere you need to be."
"Awww!" Allan groaned. "You're not going to leave me hanging like that, are you? Come on, you've started the story, now you have to finish it."
Amante shrugged. "Well, you asked. Her name is-"
"Allan! Allan Benton!" a screeching voice pierced through Allan and Amante's conversation. "Get to class this instant! You're tardy young man! Extremely tardy!"
Allan laughed. "Aww, come on Mrs. Devine! You're not gonna count me tardy, are you? I love you, ya know."
"Oh hush!" Mrs. Devine scolded, but couldn't help smiling. "If you beat me back to the room I'll forget about it."
Allan turned back to Amante. "It's been real, Amante, but I've gotta get to class. I'll see you around, and I hope you find that girl you're looking for!"
"Thanks," Amante waved as Allan dashed down the hall into Mrs. Devine's classroom. Amante turned and walked down the hallway in the opposite direction. "Nice boy. I'm sure Francesca would like him."
