Episode 49: Scene Four
Gemini ran her fingers across the ridged surface of her camera. For the past few days she had been focusing all of her energies and attentions on her photography classes, and she was determined to rise to the top of her class. Her teacher had talked about many scholarships and opportunities awarded to students interested in pursuing photography, and the very idea of getting to travel to London and India for photo shoots excited Gemini.
Despite all of her ambitions, something still burned in the back of Gemini's mind. Though she had vowed to have nothing more to do with Sloane, she still could not help looking at him with her longing dark eyes hoping for something she felt would never happen. In fact, her parents had asked for her to return home to Paris, but Gemini had flatly refused. She'd made excuse that it was because she wanted to continue with her photography classes, but Gemini knew she couldn't lie to herself.
As she sat at the small rounded table in the large classroom, Gemini thought of her past relationship with Rusty. She'd received a letter from him earlier in the week telling of his successful move to Maine and how he missed Midway Prep. The line that got her the most was his closing, where he signed his name under "with all my love." That was when Gemini had decided to close the door temporarily for any and all romantic endeavors.
Gemini picked up her camera and walked out of the classroom. She decided to walk outside and get some fresh air since the inside of the classroom was so hot and stuffy. She wasn't prepared for the sight that greeted her when she walked into the lobby.
Sitting in two chairs by the window were Sloane and Robin, laughing and looking deeply into each other's eyes. Without knowing it, Gemini's mouth fell open. Gemini's cheeks stung as if they had been slapped. Sitting there was her best friend and a boy she'd once thought she would have a chance with, the boy she thought could give her the opportunity to start again.
But not anymore.
