Episode 50: Scene Two
Adrienne walked back to her dorm room in defeat. All of the pleading and begging had gone to waste. Even Mel's enraged act had gone to waste. She had thought that they would be able to change Gia's mind, but she had been proven wrong. Now she had to face the empty bedroom and quiet living room by herself.
Entering her dorm room, Adrienne couldn't help but feel that the situation was quite strange. She realized that Gia was an impulsive girl, but she didn't believe that she was one to up and leave for no reason at all. No, Adrienne was sure that there was a lot more going on than Gia would let on. Being one of an inquisitive mind, Adrienne decided then and there to find out what had made Gia leave. In the past few weeks that she and Gia had spent as roommates, the girls had become close. Adrienne wasn't about to lose a friend over some silly misunderstanding, which was what Adrienne firmly believed it was.
She was so immersed in her thoughts that she didn't notice the soft rapping at her door. Only after several more times with an increase in volume every time did she finally recognize her visitor. She opened the door.
"Hi," Allan's kind voice greeted her. His eyes were rather uncertain, almost fearful. He placed his hand on the frame of the door and looked down at Adrienne.
"Al-Allan," Adrienne stammered, stepping backwards and clapping a hand over her mouth.
"I know this must come as a surprise, but I wanted to see you. I haven't seen you around lately, so I just wanted to come over and see how you are. How are you, Adrienne?"
The intensity in Allan's voice made Adrienne feel weak. Her face pale to the point of ghastliness, she could only gesture for him to enter the room. As soon as he was situated in a small chair in the living room, she managed to choke out, "I'm fine. Things could be better, but I'm as well as can be expected."
Allan's eyebrows lifted in concern. "What's going on?" Looking around, he asked, "Where's Gia? I thought for sure she'd be here chattering away as usual."
Adrienne turned away from Allan and walked towards an open window. "She's gone. She left on a whim, without an explanation. Mel and I begged her to stay so that we could find out what's wrong, but she refused to listen and left for Germany."
"Germany?!" Allan exclaimed, nearly toppling over in his chair. "Why in the world would she go to Germany?"
"She says that her parents live there. Something's wrong here, Allan, but I just can't figure out what. Trust me when I say I'm going to find out, though," Adrienne's usually soft eyes hardened in determination.
"I believe you, Adrienne," Allan looked straight into Adrienne's eyes.
For a moment, their eyes remained locked together in deep emotion. Neither one wanted to break the magic that seemed to have infiltrated the small room, but Allan finally broke away. "I have to go."
Adrienne, unblinking, nodded her head. "I know."
