Episode Fifty-Three
Allan stormed off through the woods, determined to get away from everything that had happened during the last twenty-four hours. He didn't care about the opening ceremony. In fact, he didn't care about anything. All Allan could think about was the ultimate betrayal that he'd recently learned of. The experience left his emotions numb, which was a relief to Allan. He didn't want to have to deal with the anger, the heartache, or the disappointment. He wanted only to get away and not think.
He kept pushing past the brush, on and on until he thought that he was miles away from Midway. The trees were becoming a little less green as he went on. Life seemed to be slipping further and further away with each step he took. Soon, he found himself in a world of gray and white.
He stopped and looked up through the tops of the trees. The sun was right overhead, so he figured it must have been around noon time. He paused only briefly before continuing on. Allan didn't know where he was going, but he didn't care either. He could only try to put as much distance between Francesca and him as possible.
Suddenly and unexpectedly, he burst out of the dead brush and into a world of greens and blues and reds and golds. Roses and violets were blooming in full force, something unheard of during the summer in Midway. Blithe breezes blew through the tops of magnificent oak trees and the sun beamed gloriously through the treetops, its golden light spilling onto the grass-carpeted floor beneath.
Allan looked around in wonder. He had never seen or heard of the place before, which striked him as odd considering how beautiful it was. He looked behind him, wondering how far he had come from the dorms. All thoughts of Francesca were banished as his mind tried to take in the sights around him.
Have I died and gone to heaven? God, please tell me you haven't taken me yet!, Allan looked up towards the sky as if looking for an answer. He saw that his body was still solid and he could still touch things, so he concluded that he must still have been alive.
Stumbling around the hollow, he began to think of everything that the paradise could become useful for. It would be the perfect place for him to get away from the real world and to think. Noticing that there was an opening on one end of the area, he went over to it. Just as he was about to step between the bushes, Allan bumped into someone.
