Episode 55: Scene Six
Meredith but the back of her hand to Chloe's forehead. "Hon, are you feelin' okay?"
Chloe laughed as she pushed Meredith's hand away. "Oh, come on. I wasn't that bad."
Meredith remained quiet.
Chloe's nose scrunched up as she leaned in closer to Meredith. "Was I really?"
Meredith nodded solemnly, then broke into a fit of giggles. "If you could have just seen yourself from the outside looking in. You'd realize how obsessed you sound."
"Yeah, I bet. But you know, I feel so much better now that I'm not worrying about what Brent thinks of me every step of the way. Now I realize he's just like every other guy: pathetic, ignorant, and self-centered."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa," Meredith's eyes turned serious as she looked at her reborn friend. "Where is this coming from? You don't have to hate the guy's guts to not drool over him every five seconds."
"No, Meredith. I finally see Brent for the chauevinist pig he is. He just strings girls along before dropping them along the wayside, then doesn't ever think about their feelings again," Chloe's voice rose as the emotion of all the previous months began to rise to a boiling point. "He hurt me more than you can imagine, Mer!"
Meredith put her hand over Chloe's. "Shh, don't work yourself up anymore, Chloe. We don't have to talk about this anymore."
"I need to talk about this. I want to let every woman on the face of this earth know what an utter disappointment Brent is so that they won't be fooled by his charms. Everyone needs to know what a phony Brent Woodman is!"
"Look, Chloe. I don't know what happened, but you need to calm down. Getting all knotted up isn't going to help the situation any. If you're this angry at him, then maybe you should go talk to him."
"You know, that may not be such a bad idea," Chloe's eyes shifted towards Brent and Eve across the room. "I think it's about time to let him have it for doing what he did to me."
"But what did he do to you?"
"He called me every night to ask about English homework, but every night it'd turn into the same deep conversations that always made me feel so close to him. He always gave me these looks that made me believe that we may have had a chance. He joked around with me all the time, so much that it was obvious he was doing more than just joking, Meredith. How did he expect me to react when he gave me all the signs I needed to have hope that maybe there would be an us."
By now, tears were beginning to fall from Chloe's eyes, the anger, hurt, and humiliation all pouring out in front of Meredith. In her smallest voice, she said, "He took away my belief in true love."
"Chloe! Hey, what's going on?" a jolly voice called behind her.
Chloe hastily wiped her eyes before turning around. When she saw who it was, a frigid smile appeared on her face. "Brent," her voice was calm yet deadly, "just the person I'm looking for. Sit down, let's have a little chat."
