Episode Fifty-Seven
"So you actually said that to him? Girl, give me a high-five!" Shannon raised her hand as she broke into a fit of laughter.
Chloe slapped Shannon's hand before laughing herself. "After it all happened, I couldn't believe it myself. But it was something that had to be done."
"What did he have to say after you said all of that?"
"He didn't say anything. He just looked at me strangely and then walked away. I think he wasn't prepared to take a little of what he's been giving out to other girls, ya know?"
Shannon nodded as she took another swig of her coke. The two were approaching the back of an extremely long line to the ferris wheel. "Ugh! I thought the line would be down by now."
"Yeah right, and those pigs the school keeps really fly too," Chloe remarked sarcastically before becoming serious. "By the way, how is Christian? I feel really bad that I haven't had a chance to talk with him lately, but things have just been really hectic since school let out."
"He's holding up. I talked to him a little while ago, and he said he's just really upset by the whole situation and wants to get away from it all. But can you really blame him?"
"Of course not! I couldn't imagine my parents fighting over me the way they're doing over him. When is this thing going to end? It seems like it's been forever since it first started."
"Chris said they've had a bunch of unexpected recesses and early adjournments because of conflicts and everything like that." Shannon stopped and then let out a long breath. "It seems as if all of us are having a ton of problems right now."
"Is that girl still bugging you, Shannon? If she is, I really think you need to give her a piece of your mind."
"What could would that do?" Shannon's voice took on a whining tone. Looking around first to make sure that Marlo was nowhere around them, she continued, "She's just making a lot of threats that I don't want to take the risk of her following up on."
"You can't keep letting her push you around! You were the last person I'd ever expected to let this happen. What you should be doing is getting help," Chloe slipped the last sentence in rather hastily so that Shannon wouldn't notice.
Shannon narrowed her eyes and smiled. "Nice try, Chloe. Right now I have way too many things going on, so I wouldn't even be able to fit that stuff in."
"You're going to have to face it sometime."
"Not now, okay? My main priority is getting Marlo off of my back."
Shannon craned her neck to see if the line was moving towards the front. When she saw that it wasn't, she let out an exasperated sigh and turned to Chloe again. "Sorry, girl, but I can't wait for this. I'm going to go take a walk on the beach, so I'll catch ya later!"
"Okay, but just make sure you avoid Marlo!" Chloe yelled at her retreating friend.
"I will!" Shannon shouted back before jogging away.
Macie finished up her salad before looking towards Shannon. She lowered her tinted sunglasses and smiled. "Don't worry, lil' sis. I've got your back, and I'm not going to let Mar-whatever-her-name-is boss you around. I think it's about time Marlo and I have a little chat: big sister to little-sister-persecutor.
