Episode 64: Scene Five

Gemini sat down on the tall stool at the bar of Jax's and slapped the cool, smooth wooden counter. As soon as Jax made his way over to her, she said, "Hit me with your best shot, Jax. I could use one right about now. Make it on the rocks, too."

"Ginger ale?"

"You know it," Gemini smiled. She turned slightly in her chair to look towards the front door that had just had its bells jingled due to an incoming customer. Noticing that it was Robin, Gemini waved her best friend down wildly. "Robbie!"

"Gemmy!" Robin laughed blithely and took a seat next to Gemini. "Boy, wasn't today something else!"

"You're telling me! What happened to the unspoken yet enforced rule that there should be no homework on the first day of school. Geez, and you think you know your school system."

Robin just smiled and looked into Gemini's eyes. Her calm gaze cause Gemini to squirm uncomfortably on her stool.

"Don't look at me like that! What did I do now?"

"Nothing, it's just that you seem so happy today. Did anything special happen?"

Gemini pondered the thought briefly. True, her spirits had been higher than usual, but she couldn't pinpoint an exact event that had caused them to be so. She shrugged and took her drink from a waiting Jax. "I guess I'm just glad to see everyone again. Some of these people look so different from the end of last year. Did you notice that Amber cut her hair?"

"I know! It's so short now, but I must admit it looks cute."

Gemini grunted and took a sip of her drink. "Don't tell that to her, though. She'll just fluff her puff of hair and say casually, 'I know.'"

The two girls laughed. Robin glanced quickly at her watch and then inhaled a sharp breath of air. "Wow, time's really getting along. I've got to head to my dance lessons."

"Dance lessons? Since when have you been taking dance?!"

"Actually, this is my first time. You're welcome to come along if you'd like to."

"You betcha!" Gemini finished off her drink in one large gulp and then sprang from her stool. "What is it called and where is it?"

"Jazz Queens and it's down on Burgandy Avenue. I've met the instructor and she's so nice. I know you'll love her," Robin smiled and squeezed Gemini's hand.

"Without a doubt. Who knows? Maybe I'll take a liking to it and start up lessons if my parents allow it. Couldn't you just see me stuttin' my stuff in a tutu?"

Robin burst into a fit of giggles. When her face began turning exceedingly purple, Gemini asked playfull, "Can you speak? Are you choking? Do I need to begin abdominal thrusts?"

The questions that they had been instructed to use earlier in the day in their health class only made Robin laugh harder. As soon as she could speak again, she wiped the tears from her eyes and said, "You're something else, Gemini. But let's hurry up and go or I'll be late."

Gemini trailed behind a power-walking Robin. "Right behind you, boss."
