Episode 64: Scene Six

Mel buried his hands in the pockets of his jeans and raised his face to the beautiful late afternoon sky. Now that he had completed his first day in the Upper School, he could finally breathe a sigh of relief and begin to organize his priorities and set some goals for himself for the new school year. However, one thing that continued to tug at him in the back of his mind was Gia's departure.

The suddeness and unexpectancy of the departure was what baffled Mel the most. He knew that Gia was an impulsive young woman--the situation with her plans for First Hope had alerted him to that fact--but he hadn't classified her as the type to up and leave without any notice. Her attitude when he had confronted her at the airport and the letter that he had received let him know that whatever it was, it was something important that Gia couldn't deal with.

Most of all he needed someone to talk to. Chantal was out of the question because he didn't want to let anyone else know about the problem because he knew that that was the way Gia would want it. He hadn't been able to track Adrienne down lately, but the second he found her he would have to tell her about all of the ideas racing through his mind. They were going to have to figure out what was going on and how to get her back. Somehow. Someway.

Mel looked around him at the empty park. He found it unusual that no one was ambling down the rocky track encircling the park or that no one was sitting in the benches gazing up at the crystal blue sky. Mel wasn't complaining, though, for anytime he could have to himself was welcome time. With school, Chantal, home life, and everything else, he needed a break from the real world to just think things through or to not even think at all. Still, no matter how hard he tried, thoughts of Gia were always tugging at the back of his mind.

Mel was so engrossed in his thoughts that he never noticed the dark-clad figure coming his way. As he continued to retrace his steps in his thought processes of Gia's reasonings, he was suddenly overcome with the feeling that he was not alone. A quickly glance up confirmed that suspicion, but when he realized who it was, it took his breath away in shock.

"Gia."
