Laughing Whitefish Falls: A fine trail leads from a parking lot to stairs and boardwalk overlooks to view this impressive cascade on a small creek (barely more than a ditch). |
While detailed in the Michigan Waterfalls book (Penrose, Friede Publications), this charming 20' (+/-) cascade is on Nelson Creek, which (in actuality) is hardly more than a ravine in the woods. It will carry water only in spring or after significant rains. |
Powdermill Creek (near Powderhorn Ski area, just south of the Powdermill Lodge), boasts some fine scenery in rocky dells areas, including this potentially runnable falls sequence. |
One of many Rock River's, this one lies in the boonies between Marquette and Munising. There is a barely marked pull-off/parking-area from the gravel road. An old double-track leads through the woods and eventually reaches this fine drop on the river. While it appears the falls would be fun to run, there is little other apparent gradient upstream or down, and there is no upstream access. The carry-in on the double-track would be far more a chore than the single drop would be worth. |
