The 'main' falls in Amnicon park is an irregular steep slide dumping off into a good pool (above left). Be aware, however, that the bedrock in the pool is a series of ridges. Having swum/walked the pool in summer, I went from less than knee deep to over chest deep to less than knee deep . . . in the span of three normal steps!
Just downstream, the river passes under a beautiful footbridge, then cascades down a sweet slide into a good pool below (above right). Note: It is my understanding that it is illegal to boat (put-in or take-out) from within the park. While I have heard reports of 'bandit runs', or of friendly park rangers 'looking the other way', be aware that attempting to boat this reach could be met with disapproval and/or fines. |
The footbridge takes one onto a large wooded island in the river. Another (much more basic) footbridge crosses the left channel at the head of the island (seen in background of photo above left). This left channel carries much less flow, but also cascades down some interesting drops, the largest of which is shown above right. |
