Black River
Pattison State Park (13mi. south of Superior, WI on Hwy35)

lead-in rapids Little Manitou Falls
This is one of (at least) three separate "Black River"s in the upper midwest which has interesting gradient. Two large falls lie within Pattison State Park. Some sweet looking lead-in ledges (above left) lead to the brink of Little Manitou Falls (shown above right). As seen at relatively low flows, a river-left (just right-of-center-frame) tongue of the falls appears to have a clean lip and clear descent into the pool below (depth unknown to and untested by me at this time).
Reportedly, the stretch of water from this falls to Interfalls Lake (a small, dammed recreational pond in the park, with beach and swimming area) has some merit as a whitewater run.

Big Manitou Falls (165')
Flowing out of Interfalls Lake (over the small dam which creates it), a series of ledges and waves in a relatively tight channel leads to the tallest waterfall in the state, Big Manitou Falls. Listed at 165', water twists and turns, boils and churns down this spectacular cascade.
