The Potato River has a great series of waterfalls, most of which I have not yet been to. The exception is Potato River Falls. The lead-in is a great series of ledges which lead to a dam of rock which has a (relatively) narrow breach at river-right (shown above left). A larger, split and angled ledge precedes a short pool (between rock walls), followed by a sloping broken ledge into another hanging pool.
Dropping out of the lower pool, a steep slide (shown above right) drops into a pool (which I believe is fairly shallow, though I did not test it). Beyond this, some slackwater precedes the lower falls. I have no photos of it since it was hard to view through the trees, and I decided to forego the (as I recall) steep, strenuous climb necessary to get a view from below. Suffice it to say the lower falls is an impressive river-wide steep slide, which also (reportedly) drops into a very shallow pool at it's base. In general, these make for better viewing (and photographing) than for boating. |
