Warning #3:

Make sure that there is nothing your lizards can hurt themselves on when they free roam!

by Midy

All 4 of my iguanas think they are old enough to free roam now. I have a very small apartment that I have lizard prof for the lizards. There is one dresser in my bedroom though, that I have had to tell each iguana not to climb on. It has some of my stuff on top, that they could easily knock off.

Well one day over a year ago, I was entertaining company in the living room, and ET decided to climb that dresser. I did not know she was climbing it, until I heard her fall. I ran into the bedroom to find a large puddle of blood on the floor. ET ran and hid in a corner, and I was so worried about her being hurt. I picked her up in a towel so I would not to get blood on me, and sit her on top of a cage. It took me a long time to find where the blood was coming from. She had a cut on her finger that was bleeding, and I later discovered that the finger was broken. I took care of the finger and it healed fine.

Then a few months ago, Kaya decided to climb that same dresser while I was not looking. She fell and knock several things off of the dresser. A small radio fell on her tail. The tail was still attached, but wiggled like it was broken. When I checked the end, it appeared to be dead. I was advised to splint the tail, so I called a friend to come over and help me. My friend picked Kaya up, and she dropped her tail. My friend was really upset that she dropped her tail while he was holding her, but I knew that it really needed to come off. Kaya lost most of her tail, but it is growing back now and she is doing fine.
