On fraudulent 2004 election results
MIGRANTE commends Ms. Susan Roces for consistency
Susan Roces should be given more credence for her consistency and
clarity in voicing out the sentiments of the people who were disenfranchised
by alleged massive cheating in the 2004 polls.
Ms. Roces, the widow of losing opposition presidential candidate
Fernando Poe Jr., has not failed to articulate the sentiments of
those who were cheated by massive fraud and other irregularities
in the last elections. Her adamant rejection of the legitimacy of
President Macapagal-Arroyo's presidency is shared by millions nationwide.
Like her late husband, we overseas Filipinos were never given the
chance by this administration to seek out the truth with regard
to the padded and/or shaved votes, election violence perpetrated
by the military and police forces against progressive party-list
organizations and a long list of corrupt practices in the last electoral
campaign by the current administration.
Indeed, we agree with Ms. Roces' statement that specifies that
if Macapagal-Arroyo really won then Malacanang would not bat an
eyelash and have all the documents opened for all to see.
Not only was her late husband robbed of victory in the last elections.
The people were denied access to the truth.
There can be no reconciliation without justice.
While Malacanang claims that its current tenant won by 1 million
votes, the President is pushing the legislature to railroad new
and higher taxes, draconian measures and other moves that shall
give rise to more corruption and human rights abuses by those in
authority.
We encourage Ms. Roces to continue speaking out her mind on more
issues and expand her range of topics to include the worsening human
rights situation in the country, especially the politically-motivated
killings of journalists, activists, priests, lawyers, ordinary farmers
and workers.
Ms. Roces' consistency shall see her, and a lot many people, through.
