Mik's U16's rugby photo
Michael
Carl Harrison-Ford is your true inspirational Aussie battler who has
overcome many difficulties and struggles in his younger years to reach
the great heights of a 2Blu FM drive time radio presenter. At first glance
you'd expect Mik utterly unable to hold his own with his Good Stuff counterpart,
but with Mal's supervision and constant help Mik has been able to raise
his standards high enough to satisfy the level that Mal requires.
His
bizarre fascination with 70s soul music (and dislike of the heavier brand
of rock music) can be linked directly to the fact he is constantly attempting
to live up to his father (who has for many years been a
presenter at the station and enjoys this genre
of music, as it was from his era) and come out from under his shadow.
But
seriously, Mik's skills don't end with his on air abilities. He has been
a long term member of Blue Mountains Grammar School's cricketing 2nd XI,
and it is a mystery to all involved how he did not receive bronze school's
colours for his dedicated services with both bat and ball weekend after
weekend. It had to have been tough for Mik to deal with the fact that Mal
was an invaluable member of the 1st XI and was selected for numerous representative
honours, but he appeared to cope with these further hardships with some
strength and humility.
Unlike
Mal, Mik has plans and ambitions to make something of himself in the future,
and is unfortunately expected to leave The Good Stuff to head off to the
big smoke and university. His amazing self motivation is a credit to him
and his family. The question now must be asked why Mik hasn't been able
to
land any form of employment since leaving school
while Mal has had three very impressive offers laid on the table in front
of him, two of which he has been forced to knock back. This proves that
no matter how many late nights Mik spent up study away to gain himself
a credible HSC mark, he hasn't learnt that spending night after night working
his arse off is not going to get himself anywhere in the real world. Mik
needs try and lighten up and try not to freak out and worry so much about
the future, and then maybe someone would render him employable. A lesson
that Mal is currently trying to teach him, though as yet, he has had no
success.
In
summary Mik has two dogs named Bubba and Louis, the appearance of an 18
year old Harry Potter, an IQ of 129 (4 less than his co-presenter) and
owes Mal $20 (but the interest is mounting)
In-depth
Psychological Profile:
Star Sign: Aquarius
Reason I am a nerd: Look at the picture, for God's sake!
Reason for getting up in the morning/afternoon: The Good Stuff
Most over-rated band: Something For Kate. There is no band more monotonous, whiny and boring than Something For Kate, yet somehow they topped the Triple J listener poll for album of the year. Check out The Hottest 100 this year, as well, they'll probably have two songs in the top 10. It's ridiculous. Just because a band is Australian does not make them good.
Favourite 3 pop sensations: Kris Kross, Jeremy Jordan and Billy Ray Cyrus
Most hated pop sensation: The Hampsterdance
Favourite 3 sporting stars: Michael Bevan, Tim Brasher and Anthony 'Choc' Mundine
Most hated sporting star: Shane Warne
Favourite cricket commentator: Hasha Boglae (or however it's spelt. The Indian guy on the ABC) and Kerry O'Keefe when he's not laughing like a maniac.
Most hated cricket commentator: Pretty much anyone on Channel 9 except for Richie, God bless 'im.
Favourite books: Maestro by Peter Goldsworthy, any Rhoald Dahl book, almost any pulpy crime novel, particularly those by Elmore Leonard.
Favourite movies: Dirty Harry, The Thin Red Line, Edward Scissorhands, Malcolm X, High Fidelity, The Postman Always Rings Twice (original version), North By Northwest and just about any other Hitchcock movie, Swingers, The Godfather, Mad Max 2, The People Vs Larry Flint... the list goes on.
Favourite tv shows: Freaks and Geeks, Men Behaving Badly, first 5 seasons of The Simpsons, Buffy, The Fat, Homicide: Life On The Streets, Duckman, The Late Show (D-Generation), The Late Show with David Letterman, The Micallef Programme, Family Guy, Futurama, Jimeoin, Seinfeld, Biddeal and Skinner, Wildside, Operation Good Guys, Fawlty Towers, Yes Prime/Minister, That 70s Show, Dr Katz, Big Train... I dunno, I don't really watch tv.
Hollywood celebrity I most resemble: Steve Buscemi
My personality in one word: Morose.
Motto to live by: There's optimism, and then there's stupidity. Don't aim too high.
Favourite quote: "You'll never find out who you are working in some fucking factory in Ohio" -- Capt. Willard in Apocalypse Now
"It's what you like that matters, not what you are like." --Nick Hornby in High Fidelity, though the rest of the book is all about proving that this is not the case.
What makes me cry: My exterior's too strong to let any true emotions through.
Why 2BLU FM is the best station in the world: Because it embraces the community spirit.
How would you describe The Good Stuff: As a well-oiled machine.
WHO DA BEST? Don Bradman or Michael Jordan: Both streaks ahead of anyone else in their field, but Bradman more-so.
Jennifer Love Hewitt or Sarah Michelle Gellar: Hmmm... SMG is Buffy, JLH is some whiny chick on a shithouse soapy... let me weigh that up.
Batman or Superman: Batman has the gadgets, a utility belt, a cool outfit, lives in a cave with a secret entrance, has a cool car and his alter-ego is some suave man-about-the-town. Superman has no gadgets, wears underpants on the outside of a scarily tight latex outfit, lives in an apartment (I think), doesn't even have a car and his alter-ego is a geeky newspaper reporter with big glasses. No contest.
FINISH THE SENTENCE When I grow up I want to be... a professional game show contestant.
I will be remembered in 100 years because... I'm gonna make a difference.
Mal is... tough as nuts.
When I need an ego boost I... play pool against Mal.
