Believe it or not their are TWO official ARIZONA Libertarian Parties in the State of Arizona. One is called ALP and the other ALP Inc. In both cases ALP stands for Arizona Libertarian Party.

Only one the ALP has ever been recognized by the Arizona State Government as the Official Arizona Libertarian Party.

Both have at one have been at one time or another been recognized by the National Libertarian Party often called LP as the Official Arizona Libertarian Party.

Until Aug 1999 ALP was recognized by the National Libertarian Party as the Official Arizona Libertarian Party. In violation of its by laws which say the LP can only disaffilte ALP for just cause, and against the advice of LP legal staff who urged LP not to take any action until the lawsuit of ALP Inc suing ALP was solved the National LP disaffiated ALP and affiated ALP Inc.

In Jan 2000 the Arizona court 1 ruled that ALP was the official Libertarian Party of Arizona. This means ALP is recognized by the State of Arizona as the Official Libertarian Party of Arizona, and ALP Inc. is recognized by the National Libertarian Party as the Official Libertarian Party of Arizona.

A little history

ALP is the original Arizona Libertarian Party and has been around since 19xx. It has members and officers all over the state but is pretty much centered in Phoenix where 3 million of the state x million people live.

Although it’s beginning go back to 1995? When Peter Schmerl first tried to take over the Arizona Libertarian Party in Prescott.? ALP Inc. Didn't get started until Peter Schmerl illegally created ALP Inc. at the 1999 Arizona Libertarian Party Convention in Tucson. An Arizona court 1 has ruled that Peter Schmerl attempt to take over the party was not legal and ruled that ALP is the official Arizona Libertarian Party. ALP Inc. is pretty much based in Tucson where Peter Schmerl lives.

1ALP has always said that Arizona Election Laws were Unconstitional and refused to obey them. For example State Election law demands that political party conventions be held in Phoenix and in January. ALP has always broken the law by holding is conventions in any city but Phoenix, and in any month but January (usually April). Peter Schmerl and ALP Inc then followed all the election laws held a convention in Phoenix in January and then went to the Secretary of State claiming ALP Inc was the Official Libertarian because they followed the election law and that ALP was not the official Libertarian Party because of ALP's refusal to follow Arizona Election law.

The odd thing was that both the Republicans and Democrats became part of the court case and sided with ALP against ALP Inc asking that the Arizona Election Laws be declared unconstitional.
