haiku - 1960 miners lake waihi
cold winter morning
old woman walks beside lake
wild duck beg for crumbs.
haiku - 1978 kaimai
moonrise far at sea
morepork calls from rimu stump
possum on hut roof.
haiku - 1985 rainbow station
derelict farmhouse
swallow nest in old stable
wild rose at back gate.
haiku - 1988 kowhai
kowhai flowers fall
Ranginui warms Papatu-
summer sunshine soon.
(In Maori legend, Ranginui is the Sky Father and Papatuanuku
the Earth Mother).
haiku - night heron
early before dawn
night heron feeding near shore
shrill cry in darkness.
haiku - 1985 mountain pool
frozen mountain pool
your look takes my breath away
fish swim beneath ice.
haiku - 1986 mount hikurangi
mist covered mountain
dogs wind evening breeze
hunting at first light.
haiku - 2000 whale song
off kaikoura coast
leviathan flukes surface
whale song at sunset.
haiku - 2000 katikati
katikati dawn
heron call from river mouth
raindrops on mural.
