One of the most prominent figures in the business life of Port Colborne was removed by death about 11:30 o'clock last night in the person of Henry William Boneberg who succumbed to a lingering illness at his residence, 176 Catherine street.  The late Mr. Boneberg was well known throughout the district, having resided in Humberstone and Port Colborne practically all his life and having been a prominent merchant and business man for many years in addition to being active in the Port Colborne Lions' Club of which he was a charter member.  Deceased was in his 53rd year.
The late Henry Boneberg was born in Humberstone village, the son of Mrs. Boneberg and the late C. D. Boneberg.  He was a mechanic by trade and during his early life was employed with the Ontario Siver Co. at Humberstone, moving to Niagra Falls, with the company and also being employed by that company at Detroit for a brief time.  Upon his return to Port Colborne he purchased the American Hotel on East Main street, since torn down in the construction of the present Welland Canal, and operated it for several years before purchasing the grocery business of J. H. Stanley which he operated at Charlotte and West streets until his death.
Deceased was a member of the First Lutheran church and a charter member of the Port Colborne Lions' club, having been active in the work of the club until his recent illness.  He had travelled extensively and was well known in Florida where he spent several winters.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. C. D. Boneberg, one son, Roy C. and one sister, Miss Minnie Boneberg, all of Port Colborne.
The funeral will be held from his late residence, 176 Catherine street on Wednesday, March 2, at 2 p.m. thence to First Lutheran church for service there at 2:30 p.m.  Rev. Theo. A. Iseler will have charge of both services.   Interment will be at Overholt cemetery.
