CALLED HOME
After an illness that has extended over the past year and being bedfast practically since Christmas,
Jonathan Brown , of Victoria street, passed away Friday morning.  Deceased was born in Elgin
County, Malahide township, near Aylmer over 68 years ago, and has resided in Clinton nearly 25 years.
For over 15 years he was connected with the Electric Light plant.  Besides his widow, he is survived
by a son (H. L. Brown of Toronto), and two daughters (Nellie at home, and Mrs. McTaggart of Dunboyne).
Deceased was an adherent of the Wesley church, Liberal in politics and a strong advocate for
temperance, and a member of the I. O. F.  A short memorial service was held at the home on Sunday
evening and the body was taken on the early morning train, Monday to Aylmer and from there interment was
made at the Dunboyne cemetery.  To the widow and family the sympathy of their many friends is
extended.  In speaking to members of the family the New Era learned that Mr. Brown's forefathers
came out to America on the "Mayflower" and at the time of the war of 1812 they came over to Canada and
fought for the British Empire and Canada.  Mr. Brown's father received as his reward the land on
which Ingersoll is now situated and his sword is now hung in the Masonic hall of that town.
The family have in
book form a history
of their family.
