The great thing about seeing Mike Costley perform is, that he is so adaptable. Whether in a nightclub, an auditorium, or in an open air setting, he molds himself to the environment and rises to any musical occasion. He can effortlessly make the transition between the swinging playful songs of Louis Prima, to the heart breaking torch songs of Frank Sinatra.
Mike's unmistakable love of the music, whether it is jazz, or big band, contemporary, or rhythm and blues and his desire to draw the audience into his world, can only mean one thing - Magic! Mike Costley is talent unbound and each performance is an incredible experience for all. Mike's ability to mix boyish charm with mature vocal stylings, makes him not only a crowd pleaser, but a Must See performer! Now with the exciting revival of the swing era, Mike Costley has become a Standing Room Only performer.
Since leaving New York in the 1970's, Mike has appeared on The Merv Griffin Show and has recorded with Frank Collette and The Tonight Show Orchestra. In the late 70's and mealy 80's the name Mike Costley was a tremendous draw in the Los Angeles and Orange County area nightclubs. As the lead singer with "The Standing Ovation", Mike performed throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, in showrooms, dinner theaters and nightclubs. As a solo performer, Mike appeared at the Las Vegas Hilton, in Reno at Bally's and in Lake Tahoe at Caesars.
Recently, Mike has taken on a new endeavour, big band leader. After the passing of Tommy Shepard, trombonist with Nelson Riddle, Mike was bequeathed an incredible gift. The gift was Tommy Shepard's big band library. This library by far, is one of the largest embodiments of great arrangers, including original musical arrangements by such band leaders as, Quincy Jones, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Nelson Riddle, Count Basie, Harry James and many others.
Mike has also shared the stage with such
dignitaries as, Jack Jones, Tony Bennett, Dizzy Gillespie, Glenn Campbell, Jerry Vale
and Joe Williams. Mike has opened for the hilarious Pat Cooper and will be the opening
act for Red Buttons at the Sun City concert series this fall.
