He wasn't nervous. Nah, not him. Really, now. Justin Timberlake, nervous? No way in hell.
The restaurant door opened and his head whipped towards it with a speed that could have caused whiplash. A young woman gave him a weird look as he frowned at her.
He looked back down at the menu in front of him, his hands shaking under the table, the butterflies in his stomach, going haywire and suddenly lunch didn't sound so good.
Alright, he'd admit it. He was nervous. But, come on now. If you hadn't seen the JC Chasez in the last two years and you were suddenly invited to lunch with him, you'd be just as nervous.
"Hello sir, has your other party come yet?" the waitress that had come earlier stood before him, a white smile plastered on when really all she wanted to do was go home and smoke her ass off.
Justin shook his head rapidly and looked towards the door again when the familiar ring chimed. He slumped back in his seat as a family of four came in, laughing and smiling. He checked his watch, stopping himself from growling at the 1:35 that ticked back at him. Ok, so 10 minutes wasn't that late, was it? No, traffic was always a bitch.
The waitress sighed and gave his shoulder an affectionate squeeze. "She'll come." she tried and then sauntered off.
Justin started playing with the jukebox at the side of the table. They had said it was real but he had no idea where the hell you put in your money. Oh well, he wasn't going to waste his time.
5 minutes later he was still fiddling with the dials and the numbers, cursing as he flipped to the wrong page, then pressing Motley Crüe instead of The Chi-Lites.
"Justin?"
Justin gasped and turned slowly, a beautiful blush coloring his face. He laughed slightly, nervously. "JC." He smiled and JC grinned the biggest Justin had ever seen him grin.
"God." JC slid into the booth, shrugging out of his jacket, lying it beside him. "It's been too long." His smile was still bright and contagious, Justin noted as his own face held a shy grin.
"No kidding. I-I'm glad you called."
JC chuckled and put his elbows on the table, his hands clasping in front of him. "Me too... God, you look great!" he exclaimed and Justin chuckled slightly.
"Thanks." He was blushing and he bowed his head. "You do too." Dammit, when had he become so shy?
JC's smile was now threatening to blind Justin as he nodded. "I do, don't I?" Justin chuckled and put his hands on the table. He remembered they were at a diner and grabbed a menu, handing it to JC. He already knew what he wanted. He had skimmed through the menu at least 15 times now.
JC took the menu and put it right back. "I come here a lot. I know what I want. Grilled cheese sandwich with a... strawberry malt."
Justin laughed because JC looked like a strawberry kind'a person.
"Oh god." he mumbled to himself. He did not just think that. Yes, he was now officially a teenage boy with a crush on his teacher. Just great.
The waitress came over again and sighed with relief. This was her last table of the day and now that the person had show up, the sooner she could leave. "Hey! I am Sadie and I will be your waitress tonight. Do y'all know what y'all want to drink?" Her southern tang came out and she blushed as JC grinned at Justin.
"Actually I think we're ready to order." Justin said and she smiled gratefully.
"Alright, hit me." She turned to her notepad.
Justin looked at JC, acknowledging for him to go first. "Well, I'll get a grilled cheese sandwich with curly fries and a strawberry malt. Thanks."
She smiled at JC before turning to Justin.
"And may I have the... cheeseburger with everything except mayonnaise?" She nodded. "And a side salad with Italian dressing and a coke, oh!" He skimmed down the menu again. "And a chocolate milkshake."
JC chuckled at him and he blushed. "Thanks." he added and she nodded.
"Alright, it'll be out in a few minutes."
Justin braved to look at JC when the waitress left and was unnerved when he saw the brunette smiling at him.
"What are you staring at?" He tried to play it off and fiddled with the mini jukebox again. JC reached over and pressed the on button, Motley Crüe's "Girls, Girls, Girls" playing in the small booth. Justin blushed all kinds of pink and JC grinned.
"You're so cute, Justin." he mused and Justin rolled his eyes.
"Yeah whatever."
JC yawned slightly and then slumped into his seat. "So whats been going on? How have you been?"
Justin shrugged. "It's been alright. Been kinda restless lately, ya know? But I'm good. I'm good. What are you doing these days? I heard from Chris you were going back to get your Bachelors in Arts. That's cool man."
JC grinned and then blushed. "Well, I guess. Its just weird, going back to college, ya know? And I'm what? 27 in a school of 20 year olds. But I wanna be a music teacher so I think my teaching degree is what I'm striving for next."
Justin smiled. "You're cute too JC." he laughed and JC kicked him under the table.
"Shut up." he chuckled.
Sadie walked up minutes later, laying down their drinks, informing them that their food would be out shortly.
Justin took a large gulp of his shake, squinting as it hurt his teeth. "So..." JC grinned into his cup. "So..."
Justin smiled and leaned back. "You better remember this because I won't say it again, but... But I missed you, JC."
JC's grin was about to split his face and Justin was proud he had been the one to put it there.
The brunette reached over and grabbed Justin's hands, holding them in his own. "I missed you too." he said softly, his voice light like a caress.
Justin felt his heart beat twice as fast and he was scared his hands were going to get all sweaty and yucky and JC would get up and leave him, calling him disgusting although he wouldn't blame him becaus-
"Foods here." JC replied taking his hands back, reaching for his plate. Justin blinked owlishly at his burger and JC noticed biting his lip.
They ate in silence, the hum of chatter beside them and Color Me Badd's "I Wanna Sex You Up" the only sound in the small booth.
"Ya know." Justin started and chuckled at the memory. "My mom used to tell me that they were saying ‘set' instead of sex. That's perty funny."
JC laughed and took a sip of his malt. "That is. I miss your mom, dude."
Justin nodded and continued to eat, the tension between the two long gone.
When they finished, Sadie brought the bill over, thanking them for stopping by The Silver Diner and JC nodded, pulling out his wallet.
Justin shook his head quickly, pulling out his own wallet. "I got it." he said and picked out a $20 bill.
JC laughed and pushed the bill back towards Justin. "Uh, no. I asked you here, it was my treat." He slapped down two $10 bills searching for some ones.
Justin slid over the 5 one dollar bills and grinned at JC. "Next lunch, I'm paying." He then blushed because that was such a self invite and JC was going to turn him down, he knew it because he was acting like such a freak and JC was all cool an-
"Alright, you got next one." Justin's mouth shut with a smack and he noticed JC was staring at him seriously.
"Hey. You wanna, um... like..." JC ran a hand through his hair and giggled slightly. "Who knew I could be such a teeny. Um... Ok, do you wanna go out, like... go out sometime? With me, I mean."
Justin grinned and loved the blush on JC's perfect cheekbones. He didn't even hesitate. "I'd love to." And I love you, but hey. That can wait for later.
And by JC's gleaming smile, Justin knew there was going to be a later.
