Title: The Long Journey
Part 5
Justin walked into the hotel room and threw himself across the bed. Nick and Tyler followed him in.
“Ok, note to self, Josh Chasez and Justin Timberlake in the same car is awkward and uncomfortable.” Nick mused as he threw himself across the other bed in the room.
Justin scowled at him. “Aren’t I sharing a room with Tyler? Why are you here?”
“He’s being a friend, and making sure that the ride we just had doesn’t repeat itself. Justin, you’re going to hate this, but you need to forgive Josh.” Tyler injected.
Justin glared at him. “No…hell no. I am not just forgiving him. That would be way too easy.”
Tyler sighed and pushed Nick over to sit beside him. “You’re never gonna get a satisfactory answer. You know that, don’t you? The truth is, Justin, my brother’s an idiot. He thought he could have his cake and eat it too. My father wanted him to be with Bobbie. He was in love with you. So, he had both. It’s as simple as that. It wasn’t about him not loving you. It was about a spoiled brat thinking he could have it all.”
Justin buried his face into his pillow. “I was hurt, Ty. I still am.”
Tyler crossed over to the other bed and put his hand on Justin’s shoulder. “I know that. And I understand that you want to make him suffer. But it’s making you suffer, too. Just forgive him. I’m not saying that you have to be friends with him, and I’m definitely not telling you to jump back into bed with him. But I’m saying to accept the fact that he did something really stupid and that he truly is sorry. And then to let it go.”
Justin sighed. He knew that Tyler was right. It sounded like something that his mom would say. And he knew that Josh probably was truly sorry and that it had been a long time. But that didn’t change the fact that he was still hurt by it, and that he wanted to hurt Josh in turn. He made a decision and got up.
“Which room is Josh in?” he asked, and got two astonished looks. Nick told him and then he walked next door and knocked on the door.
Joey answered it and blinked twice when he saw who was standing there. “Um, hey Justin.”
“Hey, Joey. Do you mind if I talk to Josh for a minute?” Joey nodded and left the room. Josh was sitting on his bed.
“I’m surprised that you came over. I wasn’t expecting to see you.”
Justin didn’t answer. He just crossed the room and hit Josh in the back of the head so hard that Josh fell off the bed. Then he began to talk.
“Listen here, Josh. I still don’t completely trust you. But I’ve decided to forgive you. You’ll have to work for my friendship and my trust but I’m willing to try again. We’re starting over again, as friends this time, since we never got to be that our first time out. But if you fuck up this time, that’s it. You think four years was a long time? You strike out this time; I won’t talk to you for the rest of my life. Understand?”
Josh, dazed, nodded, and Justin hit him one more time. He had wanted to hurt him, and this was the best he could do since he was promising him a second chance. Justin then left the room, and Josh sat there, cradling his head, looking confused.
“What,” he mused to himself, “in the hell was that?”
