Part 1
It was a tricky situation.
That's what 26 year old Josh Chasez concluded when he was reviewing the case of the Chisten City gang feuds.
The local police had given up on the fights, with the excuse that "There are more important things to resolve than some stupid gang feud. They wanna kill each other? Let ‘em do it."
So who did that leave to do it? The FBI and, well Josh.
With his degree in psychology and his profession in mediation, not to mention the fact that his best friend was in the government and had secretly given him a boost, he now had a job on the case.
Though he wasn't quite sure how this was going to work, he had always been excited about new cases. It was thrilling, though some would call his work boring or trite, he got a kick out of it. Being in the middle of something big, helping to solve the problem. He felt like a renewed super hero.
And the $300 a day salary wasn't bad either.
Now, Josh was unpacking in his new apartment in the heart of Chisten city, the neighboring town to Detroit.
"Lioness Grove townhouses." Josh read the business type card on his white counter, next to the open basket of food. He had already opened it and fixed himself a sandwich with the ingredients.
When he was finished with his main stuff, he had decided little stuff could wait until later, he went to his couch and with his brief case and lap top open he began to search through the file.
As said before, it was a tricky situation. The gangs, which had remained anonymous if only by their names for some time now, were extremely secretive and tight. The last missions to try and get on this inside fell through when the team on it realized after 3 weeks that this was harder than it looked.
But JC wasn't interested in that, so to say. He just needed to know who to go to first. Then he could deal with how to get in their good graces.
Pictures and pictures and pictures showed up on his computers, his fingers typing busily but none of these people were recognized to be on either of sides.
Then, as he was eating a bagel and cream cheese, he came across an insider, Tristan Marquis. He busily dialed the number because after hours of searching, any little piece was enough.
The two talked for some time, mainly Marquis asking how he had come across him, Josh just saying he would make sure he didn't get hurt if the younger man told Josh anything about the gangs.
And Marquis did. The names came out to be their block names. Block 118 and Block 645. The feud between the two started over land. And girls. Seems one of the men from 118 had messed around with someone's girl from 645, impregnating her. Then from there it just escalated and now, 5 years after the whole thing started, the uproar was just about being enemies.
Though Marquis couldn't give any info on who was in it he guaranteed that if Josh hung around the East, he'd have his pick.
Josh, who was grateful for the inside information couldn't help but be suspicious about Marquis giving him this info.
"Why did you tell me?" he asked as he closed his briefcase and went to Mapquest.com to find out where the east was from him.
Marquis had been silent and when Josh was about to thank him anyway for his cooperation Marquis had answered with, "My brothers in that mess. I want him out, and this is the only way he is going to be."
Josh had softened and nodded, telling the young man he'd keep in touch. When he hung up the phone, he wrote a little note on the case folder to give Marquis a bonus for cooperating.
He stood up and stretched, raking a hand through his wild hair. He yawned and then blinked, looking out the huge window toward the dark city. The lights were vibrant and bright but the town still looked dark and murky.
Josh smiled. This was going to be interesting to say the least.
