 Next, are made up of three brothers from Minnesota, R.L.(b.Robert Lavell Huggar, April 2, 1977) , T-Low (b.Terrance Brown, June 7, 1974) and Tweety (b.Raphael Brown, 28 January 1976, USA) who recruited vocalist R.L. through their uncle, a director of a local gospel choir. They started out performing at a Minneapolis community center, later graduating to local clubs and showcases. Their smooth, sexy pop/R&B sound eventually grabbed the attention of Naughty By Nature's KayGee, who signed the trio to his Divine Mill label, an imprint of Arista Records.

Next's debut on Divine Mill, Rated Next, hit the shelves in September 1997. The album features a guest appearance by friends Naughty By Nature. Welcome II Nextasy, came out in 2000. In 2002, Next signed with J Records and released The Next Episode.
