Welcome to the Official Christmas Eve Bowl Website.

The Christmas Eve Bowl is played annually on Christmas Eve at the Clarenville Inn Field in Clarenville, NF.  Played since 1993, it is the third longest annual sporting event in Clarenville behind the annual the Dory Races and the Labour Day Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament.  It is one of few occasions throughout the year that brings old friends together.

The Rules

The rules for the Christmas Eve Bowl are a little different from the NFL or CFL.  Each team is given 5 downs per offensive drive.  If a team cannot score a touchdown within 5 downs, they must either punt on 5th down or if the fail on a 5th down conversion they must surrender possession to the opposing team at the same field position.  There are no uprights, and consequently there are no extra points or field goals.  Teams are picked just before the game starts.  Depending on the number people, kick returning may be allowed.  Since there are no extra points, a touch down is rewarded with 7 points.  All calls on standard infractions are made.

History

The Christmas Eve Bowl was officially established in 1993.  All games, with the exception of Christmas Eve Bowl V in 1997, have been played at Clarenville Inn Field - known as 'Holiday Inn Hill'.  The field is known for its gentle slope downward from south to north and for its trees in the north end zone.  In 1997, Clarenville Inn Field was too icy to play on, so the game was relocated to the Ball Field on Tilley's Road.  A new soccer field is being developed in Clarenville, but most players would like to stick with tradition and keep the game at the Clarenville Inn Field.  The game summaries are listed below, unfortunately, we only began recording information in 1996, and didn't start recording the score until 1999.
