Molson St. John's Ball Hockey Association - Tier II (2002-2003)

  The Rum Runners were formed in 2002 with players from three teams from the MUN Ball Hockey League - The Elite (formerly known as the Clarenville franchise), the Road Warriors, and the Royals.  Unfortunately, team chemistry was a big issue for the team in its inaugural season in the St. John's Ball Hockey Season, going 7-14-1, missing the playoffs and finishing 10th out of 12 teams in Division C.  In 2003, however, the team saw several new faces, and said goodbye to several others.  The team now had experience, a steady offense and a solid defense.  Despite finishing 7th in Tier II, the team went on a playoff run of epic proportion.  Knocking off the top two teams in the first two rounds were major accomplishments for the Rum Runners.  Exhausted and with their roster depleted though, the Rum Runners fell short in the Tier II Finals against the Molson Devils, losing the series 3 games to 1.  While the team is no longer together, every player still remembers the great season they had in 2003.  Long live the Rum Runners!

Season Notes

The 2002 Rum Runners failed to make the playoffs in their first season in the St. John's
Ball Hockey Association.  With a lack of team chemistry and a goaltending controversy,
the team would go in a new direction for the 2003 season.

Season Notes

The Rum Runners were rebuilt for the 2003 season.  With the subtraction of several
weak players and the addition of more experienced and skilled players, the Rum
Runners had a successful regular season and went on a great run in the playoffs,
knocking the top two ranked teams out, before falling short in the finals.  Overall
though, a great season of ball hockey and many memories.
